“Eephus” Premieres at Scene One Spectrum 8 Theatres: A Poignant Comedy of Baseball, Community, and Time
[Albany, NY] – [02/25/25] – “Eephus,” a heartwarming and humorous film directed by Carson Lund, will premiere at Scene One Spectrum 8 Theatres on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 7:00 PM, preceded by a moderated Q&A with the director at 6:00 PM. The event is co-sponsored by the New York Sandlot Collective.
Logline: As an imminent construction project looms over their beloved baseball field, two New England recreational teams face off one last time. Named for a rare pitch, this poignant comedy is an ode to sports, community, and the passage of time.
Summary: “Eephus” follows the River Dogs and Adler’s Paint, two recreational baseball teams who have shared their New England field on Sunday afternoons for generations. These middle-aged sportsmen, while perhaps not as agile as they once were, maintain an unwavering passion for camaraderie, playful rivalries, and good-natured ribbing. When the local county board decides to demolish their cherished Soldier’s Field for a new school, the teams gather for one final, memorable game. With girlfriends, children, and local onlookers as their audience, the players grapple with the changing times as the day fades into night.
Lovingly set in a vanished Massachusetts of the mid-1990s, Carson Lund’s poignant feature debut captures the essence of a lazy afternoon, perfectly attuned to the timeless rhythms of America’s favorite pastime. Named after a rarely thrown curveball, “Eephus” is both a delightful comedy for baseball enthusiasts and a nostalgic film for anyone who has witnessed the erosion of their community’s cherished spaces.
Directed by Carson Lund and featuring performances by Keith William Richards, Bill “Spaceman” Lee, Wayne Diamond, Cliff Blake, and Joe Castiglione, with a voice cameo from Frederick Wiseman, “Eephus” is a celebration of the enduring spirit of recreational sports and the bonds that tie communities together.
“Eephus is a film about the love of the game, and the love of the community that surrounds that game. It’s about the passage of time and the places we hold dear,” says director Carson Lund. “I’m excited to share this story with audiences.”
